Employee Spotlight: Jaclyn Mellon

Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist | 3 Years at TouchBistro

Jaclyn Mellon

What do you do here at TouchBistro? How has your role/department evolved over the years?

As a member of the Talent team, I have the chance to bring the top talent to our amazing teams! What started off as hyper growth mode, high volume sales based recruitment, has evolved into supporting all of our departments here at TouchBistro, with whatever needs they have come up with. As a Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist, I get to recruit for some super strategic roles that will play a big part in TouchBistro’s future, lead various projects, and overall contribute to our employer brand and employee experience.

What makes TouchBistro special to you?

I think this comes down to two things – the industry we serve and the people. I have always enjoyed trying new spots in the city, especially since moving downtown. I have had some of my best memories and celebrations in the restaurant industry, so the fact that we serve this space holds near and dear to me. In this day and age, a job is more than just a job and since we spend a ton of our time with our coworkers, building those relationships in the workplace is so important. We have such an amazing team here, filled with tons of people who are passionate about what they do and helping one another through it.

What aspect of your role at TouchBistro brings you the most satisfaction and fulfillment, and why?

It is no secret that interviewing can be nerve-wracking for some and in the world of interviewing it can sometimes be less than favorable for candidates (think long & repetitive interview processes, lack of updates, and yes – even ghosting). In my role, I always put the candidate experience first. Whatever I can do to make the experience as seamless and positive as possible, is always top of mind. Beyond this, when you make that perfect hire and get great feedback from your hiring teams once they are onboarded, makes it all beyond worth it!

If you had to eat one meal every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Oh, this is an easy one for me – pasta. Whether at a restaurant trying a new fancy dish, or simply a plain spaghetti (my current favorite) with a spicy tomato sauce (yes out of a jar) at home – chefs kiss. I’ll never get sick of this and it’s even better when I have the house to myself, in front of the TV, and binge watching my favorite series.

How do you collaborate with other teams within TouchBistro to ensure a seamless experience for our employees?

The employee experience, especially straight from onboarding a new hire, is top of mind for us at TouchBistro. It truly takes a village, including Talent, HR, IT, Finance, and Facilities to ensure we set up our new employees for a great experience, even prior to day one. While we have solid processes in place, things can always come up, and our stellar teams communicate and collaborate flawlessly to get the job done, whenever and however needed.

Can you share a memorable experience or interaction you’ve had with a restaurant owner or staff member that made you proud to be part of the hospitality industry.

Not exactly one specific example, but every time I visit a new spot, I’m always on the lookout for our platform. Whether they use TouchBistro or not, 100% of restaurant workers I speak with say TouchBistrois hands down their favorite system. Being on the people’s side of the business, I don’t work with the product directly, so it’s always great to hear these real life reactions! And not to mention, I find the people you meet in hospitality to be some of the nicest and warmest people!
